    8-11.c(6). Contacts

"Contacts should be cleaned and adjusted in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. Modern switches are normally designed so that the contacts are self-cleaning, by virtue of the opening and closing action of the switch. After a switch remains in either position for a long time, it should be operated several times during a maintenance inspection. This operation will clean the contact surfaces. Operate only after getting clearance and after the circuit has been deenergized. (a) Do not use a coarse abrasive to clean contacts. If contact pitting is minor, smooth the surface with clean crocus cloth or as the manufacturer recommends."
